CIRCLOOPS is a cross-border cooperation project: 16 consortium partners from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg jointly explore strategic and operational questions of circular value creation and develop solutions that work in practice. Results are tested directly in cross-border industrial use cases.

THE PROJECT

WHAT WE WORK ON IN CIRCLOOPS

What it is about

In CIRCLOOPS we develop how usage and condition data of long-lived industrial components, for example from rail technology, can be integrated into the Digital Product Passport, so that end-of-life decisions such as reuse, refurbishment or recycling are based on data instead of experience. We thereby complement the static master data of the DPP under the EU Ecodesign Regulation (ESPR) with a decision basis for the real product life cycle.

Our role in the consortium

In the Austrian consortium, TU Wien, Siemens Mobility, H+H Systems and Welser Profile develop an integrated decision model that links condition, usage and life-cycle cost data and validates it in real industrial pilots. At Thinkubator we translate the emerging findings into learning formats and take care of knowledge transfer across the international consortium - from trainings for SMEs and professionals to dissemination through partner networks and specialist publications. As a transnational cooperation between research and industry in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, CIRCLOOPS shows how the circular economy can be anchored in complex European value chains.
